black and white

I’ve been looking for some inspiration around black and white images lately. But isn’t black and white supposed to be too boring for kids these days? Yet another underestimation of kids, perhaps.

Here are three examples that are certainly NOT boring.

Edward Gorey’s Woman in Trouble

illustration by Tony DiTerlizzi from the second book in the Spiderwick Chronicals

end papers by Arthur Rackham from Sixty Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm

green tales and trails

This was my project over the weekend. One of our grad students is planning a free event later in May and she asked me to illustrate the flier. This version has the text taped in rather clumsily, but you can get the picture. If you’ve never seen IslandWood before, here’s a chance to walk the trails and listen to some local storytellers.
