NYC, The Original Art and JOURNEY

A few weeks back my sister got married in Brooklyn, where she lives. It was a gorgeous wedding and Lucy was a fluffy, lacy little flower girl who miraculously made it down the aisle (with some help from Chris). Despite our short time there, we spent one day in Manhattan where I finally got to meet my agent, Marietta Zacker, in person! And she is every bit as kind, smart and delightful in person as she is from afar.

Marietta mentioned the Society of Illustrators show, The Original Art, which showcases illustrations from the year’s best picture books. So we had to go check it out. We found that Lucy is quite the gallery goer.

I was giddy looking at this artwork! Some of my heros, like Jerry Pinkney, Marla Frazee and Peter Brown. This breathtaking piece from Mr. Tiger Goes Wild was there. (Apologies for tiny thumbnails. Check out the book in person!)

But there was also work by a few people who are less well known whose work was just as thrilling to see- Renata Liwska, Stephanie Graegin, Albertine. And after seeing this piece in person,

I am now in love with this new book, Journey, by Aaron Becker. Watch the Making of Journey. It gave me lots of goosebumps!
