kids walking in winter

This painting was inspired by Lucy and her kindergarten class. On days that I pick her up  Aki and I wait for them to walk in a long line across the blacktop and to the pick-up area. There’s the most amazing array of color and pattern being sported by these kiddos, and each student in her class is such an awesome character. They’re like little bright spots on a gray winter day.

But they’re simultaneously little and big- there’s nothing like sending your kid to kindergarten to make you think they are SO big (weren’t you just scooting around the living room floor yesterday?) and SO little (because at grade zero, literally everyone in the school is bigger than you).

Lucy is loving school by the way. She is excited about everything- especially art and gym. And she came home today extra excited about going to a school wide Equity Team meeting where she was one of the few kindergarteners. Heart melting!!
